I lodged in my usual Prague bolthole - the Hotel Panorama in Pankrac Housing Estate 4, living up to its name with splendid views of the city, and, in particular, the tower blocks of South Town, stretching over the horizon into Bohemia. On a sunny afternoon and with batteries re-charged I ventured out into the panelak (tower block) jungle, camera back in hand like an old friend. Here's the trip:-
In Liberec my camera battery charger exploded and somewhere else my laptop caught a virus which turned into a spy and was only eradicated last night here in the sand by a Philipino who didn’t save my freaking files even though I had freaking well told him to. Freaking idiot ... and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was deliberate as resentment, especially re. money or lack of, is rife in the sand, all-but hitting you in the face as soon as you land and I’ve witnessed certain green-eyed monsters trembling and grimacing from envy, spitting anger like an asp. So I am now doing a bit of hazy backwards time travel and I vaguely remember a trip to Prague for a birthday party on Kampa Island, next to the Vltava River, where Norbert the birthday boy ended the evening wearing a Borat-inspired mankini. It wasn’t pretty but at least the booze and grub were on him too.
