Due to the rarity of such an event, I stood outside in the street, face turned skywards, letting the raindrops cleanse and cool me. As I did so the garden gate in the house opposite slowly opened and the little girl who lives there tentatively came out holding a pink umbrella and she did a dance of delight, hopping and skipping about in a puddle, pigtails jigging up and down. Maybe it was the first time she’d ever seen such a phenomenon.
Yesterday evening it poured with rain for a good ten minutes! Then drizzled into the night. This must be some sort of meteorological milestone on the Arabian peninsular because it usually consists of just a two minute downpour per annum. So I was amused (humour is low on the ground in the sand, even when it rains) this evening when I tuned into my 2nd favourite TV channel to find a brand new addition to the weather report (see photo, left. Nb. humidity is still at 80%) in the column Accumulated Rainfall 8.7mm. Not really enough to satisfy many camels, but, hey, it’s a start! Camel Channel With that excitement done and dusted, I dried out to watch my all-time favourite sandy TV channel called Camel Racing Live, as I’ve got a few riyals on Mustafa Long Legs who lost by a neck.
