Wandering along the beach, the skyline was interrupted by colourful tent tops and I stumbled upon the annual flower festival, where, I'm certain, at least half of the blooms on show were plastic - not really surprising with one of the world's largest petrochemical plants just up the road. What I found most interesting about the festival was the evening entertainment that was so loud it could be heard bouncing off the walls 5 kilometres away. Not only was there entertainment but there was music too! And flashing lights! And people having fun! All this with the religious police prowling in patrol cars. What the hell is going on?
